Hand Carved Stone Head / Stoup Green Man
Item Ref: APG 10206
Description
Absolutely stunning example of a stone carving believed to date from around the 16th century. Most likely a stoup which were placed inside the doorways of abbeys and churches and held holy water.
This example has been carved with the face of the Man of the Woods or often better known as the Green Man who still features on many items today but has been around for centuries.
The detail of the carving is exquisite, not only in the detail of the face but also in the hollowing out of the piece, just superb. A unique piece that has been part of a private collection.
