Description
Absolutely stunning example of a 15th century carved limestone water spout. These were found churches and abbeys and designed to direct water away from the walls and ultimately foundations. Very rare piece.
This example has been carved with the face of the Man of the Woods or often better known as the Green Man who still features on many items today but has been around for centuries.
The detail of the carving is exquisite, not only in the detail of the face but also in the hollowing out of the piece, just superb. A unique piece that has been part of a private collection.
